The Ministry of Finance and the International Monetary Fund, in partnership with the Doha Forum, organised a panel discussion entitled “Global Trade Tensions: Economic Implications and Policy Responses in the Middle East and North Africa,” with the participation of HE Mr Ali bin Ahmed Al Kuwari, Minister of Finance. The session was part of the 23rd edition of the Doha Forum 2025, held under the theme “Advancing Justice: From Promises to Tangible Reality.” The discussion focused on how countries in the Middle East and North Africa are adapting to rising uncertainty in global trade and economic policies, reviewing the impact of changing tariffs and economic volatility on the global economy, particularly on economies facing high debt levels and weaker institutions. The session also highlighted mechanisms to strengthen countries’ resilience to shocks, including bolstering fiscal and external buffers, improving policy frameworks, and enhancing institutional credibility, while emphasising the importance of deeper integration, openness, and improved governance in supporting economic diversification and adaptation in an increasingly uncertain global environment.
